Carbon Capture Storage

Like a young forest, 365 sculptures sprout forth from Stortorget. Here, where people are constantly moving, Mattias Käll reminds us that our way of living affects the climate. Every cube corresponds to the number of trees that are needed to bind the carbon dioxide the artist himself produces during a day. He describes the forest as teeming with life and death: the forest is bright green annual shoots, microbacteria, sand wasps, willow warblers, bank voles and red foxes; growth and decay. Käll points out that the forest has to be enough for so much – district heating, building constructions, bioplastic, carbon sinks – while all the while, usage methods can threaten biodiversity. He invites us to sit down and talk about technology optimism, desire, forests, and nature’s own solutions.

As an extension of Carbon Capture Storage, video works are shown inside the St. Nicolai Church as well as a performance during the opening of OpenArt 2024.
