In Olof Marsja's sculptures and installations, his interest in history and Sami craft tradition is combined with the present and the future. Sawn and carved details emerge in materials such as wood, metal, glass and mixed materials. These contradictory materials are explored and joined together in a monumental, playful and skilled assemblage technique. Found and recycled materials from everyday objects such as sportswear, a Lidl bag and a garbage can are repeatedly brought into new contexts. The materials are often carriers of themes and stories about identity, place and memory, but also childhood that emerges in a symbolic language. Central to this is the human view of nature, which is problematized from a colonial perspective. The exhibition "A Group of Sculptures Dreaming of Light" shows around 30 sculptures that provide a broad and in-depth presentation of Marsja's artistic practice. The exhibition is his first major solo exhibition and provides a comprehensive insight into his unique visual world filled with figures.
