OPENART is Örebro’s recurring art biennial, an art exhibition held every two years, where contemporary art from around the world meets people right in the heart of the city.

The summer of 2026 marks the tenth edition of OPENART, Sweden’s largest biennial for contemporary art in the public space. Since 2008, OPENART has transformed the heart of Örebro into a place where contemporary art becomes part of everyday life. From June 13 to September 6 2026, the city will once again be filled with artworks that surprise, move, and take up space — all free to experience.

This year’s edition is the tenth in the series, and it is highlighted through OPENART LINKS, which extends the art beyond Örebro. LINKS is a collaboration between OpenArt – Örebro Municipality, Region Örebro County, and the municipalities of Askersund, Kumla, Laxå (Tivedstorp), Lindesberg, and Nora. During the same exhibition period as OPENART in Örebro, public artworks will be presented at selected locations in these municipalities from 13 June to 6 September 2026.

In July, art enthusiasts can borrow a travel card to visit the artworks featured in OpenArt Links. Travel cards are available to borrow at the OpenArt Info Center at Örebro Konsthall.

How to use the travel cards

The travel cards are valid for journeys on city buses, the city line, regional buses, and trains within Örebro County: Tåg i Bergslagen (TiB), Västtågen/Kinnekulletåget, and SJ Regional. (The travel cards are not valid for trips with Närtrafiken.)

The travel cards are not valid for travel all the way to Tivedstorp in Laxå Municipality. The card will take you to Laxå town center, but for onward travel to Tivedstorp you will need to use Länstrafiken’s Närtrafik service, which must be paid for separately. You can plan and purchase your trip to Tivedstorp via the link provided here.

How to borrow a travel card

You may borrow up to 2 cards per person for a maximum of 2 days. Travel cards are available at the OpenArt Info Center at Örebro Konsthall from July 2 to July 31. Opening hours: Mon–Fri 11:00–17:00, Sat–Sun 12:00–16:00.

To borrow a travel card, you will need to show your ID and provide your mobile number and email address. When a card is borrowed, the date and time are registered along with the agreed return time.

Please note that travel cards cannot be reserved in advance. If a card is not returned, it will be blocked from further use.

The travel cards for OpenArt Links are funded by the Visual Arts Promotion Programme of Region Örebro County.
