OpenArt 2017 was the most extensive edition to date, with over 70 artists from more than 20 countries, with special focus on Colombia and Japan.

Large installations, experimental expressions and strong narratives took place in the public space. One of the most memorable works was an arena and gathering place built from thousands of donated chairs at Järntorget. Thematically, many works revolved around questions of faith, belonging and our common future. The biennial showed that contemporary art in the middle of the city not only engages, but also challenges. Ahead of the 2017 exhibition, Örebro Municipality decided that OpenArt would become an activity within the municipality, instead of a project as before.
