Barbara Licha

People who seem to be in motion form silhouettes in the sky. Some stretch out in an attempt to make contact with others. One – or more – seem to be defending themselves, protecting their privacy. Licha’s work "Social Distance" becomes an illustration of our lives during the very strange years of the pandemic, where we had to adopt new habits, physically limit social interaction and find new ways to interact with each other.

"Social Distance" consists of five different sculptures, each enclosed in a sphere of gossamer steel wire. We can reflect on each individual expression. Together, they mirror the tension between our individual needs to be ourselves and the human longing to be part of a community and interact with one another. It is a universal existential question.
