A mysterious island has been placed in the Svartån River. The inhabitants of the island may have broken loose from some distant mainland and then floated aimlessly before finally anchoring here. It is an odd and colourful group living on the island. Different species live in this ecosystem: bears, dogs, porcupines, otters, skunks, kangaroos, rabbits and coyotes.
The artist duo wants to shed light on how the use of animals and nature can inspire magic and daydreaming, while still voicing worry about the climate and our shared future. The island represents a sort of earthly paradise that highlights questions about nature’s place in urban environments.
Happy Cast Aways was originally created for PASSAGES INSOLITES, a public art circuit design by EXMURO and presented by the City of Quebec.
