OpenART will once again take over the city centre of Örebro June 8 – September 1 2019. During the biennale 2015 we chose to have a focus on China and France and in 2017 Japan and Colombia had an extra focus. It’s about a third of the participating artists who are selected for the focus countries, and the rest of the artists have come from countries all over the World. To have focus countries has given the biennale an intresting theme to immerse you in as well as a deeper look into the countries art scene and history.
For the biennial 2019 we choose to look towards the Nordic countries, Iceland, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Sweden. The Nordic art is fairly new to OpenArt. Previous biennials, there are no artists from Iceland that have participated and only a few from Denmark and Norway. We have invited curators from the Nordic countries who have a mission to do a selection of artists and artworks. The curators we collaborate with all have great experience in working with biennials and art in the public space.
Recently our Open Call closed where professional artists from all over the World submitted ideas of artworks for next year’s biennial. Open Call resulted in 437 applicants and ahead lays the work of the jury to select the most interesting and workable ideas. The Jury consists of Anna-Karin Wulgué, art gallery manager, Linda Wallenberg, curator, Andreas Brändström, art museum manager, Loulou Cherinet, artist, Johan Jedebert, artist and exhibition technician, who all contribute with their skills, experience and perspective.
During the last couple of years 30 percent of the participating artists in OpenArt have been selected from the Open Call and about 70 percent have been selected from the curator team.
Both the curatorial work and the jury work will take place in spring and summer 2018.
