Totem Point is an object made out of 5 letters – “POINT”. It is basically 3D graffiti, where parts of the whole sculpture series has been installed around streets in various cities. The idea is to create graffiti without the need of a wall. The first Point sculpture was made in 2001. After that it has been created in all kinds of shapes and sizes made out of different materials like wood, paper, gypsum, polystyrene or metal. In recent years red color was decided to be a “brand color”. This sculpture is made out of resin.

Artist Statement

Jan Kaláb belongs to the oldest active generation of graffiti writers in the Czech Republic. In 2006 he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. Not only does he engage in classic graffiti, with a talent for dynamic, colorfully playful compositions, but he also creates objects and sculptures in various formats in public spaces. He does not fear experimentation and thus successfully pushes the boundaries of the field. On canvas, he reduced his sweeping graffiti style to concentrated minimalist geometry.
