The General and His Staff

I grew up in a small village in Biberach an der Riss, south of Germany. Close to my village, on the verge of a small forest, there is a stone cross. This cross is the so called “Schweden Cross“. The history says that a general from Sweden was buried there during the “Thirty Years’ War“. For a long time, a big festival has been taking place in Biberach every year. An essential part of this event is the “Imperatorial Horse Man“, as well as the “Sweden Music Group“. Since I was young I’ve had a picture of “My Sweden” in my mind.
The project consists of three parts: the Watchhouse as a permanent sculpture in the center of Örebro combined with a live performance at the opening as well as a weekly live broadcast. In the Watchhouse there is a screen which shows a film loop. By the time of the live broadcast a board gets extended to a table.
For the grand opening of OpenART, the “Sweden Music Group“ will get separated in two parts. One half will be in Örebro, while the other one stays in Biberach. A common concert will be broadcast via video transmission.
