Silence in between

Frame in stainless steel, woodwork in plywood; 280cm x 250cm 250 cm

The work is meant to be interactive. The funnel/sinkhole shapes of the wood invites the visitors to place his or her head in between and listen to the surrounding sounds. The construction amplifies and invites the visitor to hear, to listen, to receive and to pay attention. By doing so, one can experience the silence in oneself. The installation places the spectator’s mind at the center of the artwork, functioning as a tool for the visitor to experience “here and now”.

Artist Statement

“Soon silence will have passed into legend. Man has turned his back on silence. Day after day he invents machines and devices that increase  noise and distract humanity from the essence of life, contemplation, meditation.“ – Jean Arp

“The music is not in the notes, but in the silence between.” – W.A. Mozart

“When you talk you are only repeating what you already know; But when you listen, you may learn something new.“ – Dalai Lama
