Fu Zhongwang

Mask

In 1982, Fu Zhongwang graduated from the Central Academy of Art and Design in Beijing. He is currently the director of the Hubei Museum of Art, and he currently lives and works in Wuhan. His art has always focused on the multiple possible uses of the models, languages, forms, and materials of sculpture, with a special interest in polished wood and metal. From mortise and tenon joints, he derives his ideas about historical, cultural, and social meaning. As a bust, “Mask” reflects the acts of viewing, borrowing, and absorbing that take place between it, the environment, and the viewer. The sculpture is a visual reconstruction that is closely, narrowly related to his own state, and one that reflects a constantly shifting environment.
